Overview
- On May 22, ICE agents in Wisconsin arrested 54-year-old Ramon Morales-Reyes after he mailed a handwritten letter to an ICE field officer threatening to shoot President Trump at a rally
- Morales-Reyes entered the U.S. illegally at least nine times between 1998 and 2005 and has a criminal history that includes a felony hit-and-run conviction, criminal damage to property and disorderly conduct with a domestic abuse modifier
- The letter expressed anti-White and anti-Trump grievances, referenced a .30-06 rifle and stated he would self-deport to Mexico after the assassination
- The threat follows last summer’s shooting attempt in Butler, Pennsylvania, and a recent James Comey Instagram post that Trump allies viewed as an incitement to violence
- DHS Secretary Kristi Noem warned that heated political language can spur further threats and pledged to maintain measures ensuring President Trump’s protection
