Overview
- Ramon Morales-Reyes, 54, sent a letter on May 22 threatening to shoot Donald Trump in the head at a rally using a .30-06 Springfield rifle before self-deporting to Mexico.
- Morales-Reyes entered the U.S. illegally at least nine times between 1998 and 2005 and has prior convictions for felony hit-and-run, criminal damage to property and disorderly conduct with a domestic abuse modifier.
- He remains in ICE custody at Dodge County Jail in Juneau, Wisconsin and is slated for deportation following legal proceedings.
- DHS Secretary Kristi Noem highlighted that the threat comes within a year of last year’s Butler, Pennsylvania shooting of Trump and shortly after former FBI Director James Comey’s assassination comments.
- Noem urged politicians and media outlets to tone down hostile rhetoric and affirmed that DHS will implement all necessary measures to safeguard former President Trump and other public figures.
