ICE Arrests Convicted Sex Offender in Massachusetts

A Guatemalan man, convicted of sexual assault on a child, was arrested by ICE in Gloucester after being released by the court.

  • Federal immigration officials arrested a 34-year-old undocumented Guatemalan man in Gloucester, Massachusetts, convicted of indecent assault and battery on a child under 14.
  • The man had been released by the Gloucester District Court despite his conviction and an immigration detainer filed by Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO).
  • ERO Boston's Field Office Director emphasized the threat the individual posed to Massachusetts residents and the importance of not allowing convicted sex offenders the opportunity to reoffend.
  • The arrest is part of ICE's recent enforcement effort, which apprehended about 275 undocumented sex offenders nationwide between Feb. 5 and Feb. 16.
  • The man, who entered the US without authorization in April 2011, will remain in ICE custody pending removal proceedings.
