ICE Arrests Convicted Sex Offender in Massachusetts

A Guatemalan man, convicted of sexual assault on a child, was arrested by ICE in Gloucester after being released by the court.

Federal immigration officials arrested a 34-year-old undocumented Guatemalan man in Gloucester, Massachusetts, convicted of indecent assault and battery on a child under 14.
The man had been released by the Gloucester District Court despite his conviction and an immigration detainer filed by Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO).
ERO Boston's Field Office Director emphasized the threat the individual posed to Massachusetts residents and the importance of not allowing convicted sex offenders the opportunity to reoffend.
The arrest is part of ICE's recent enforcement effort, which apprehended about 275 undocumented sex offenders nationwide between Feb. 5 and Feb. 16.
The man, who entered the US without authorization in April 2011, will remain in ICE custody pending removal proceedings.
