ICC Suspends USA Cricket’s Membership, Keeps National Teams Eligible

A Normalisation Committee will set reinstatement conditions after governance failures, including stalled USOPC recognition.

Overview

  • ICC directors voted on September 23 to suspend USA Cricket with immediate effect for repeated breaches of membership obligations, citing nonfunctional governance, lack of USOPC progress, and reputational damage.
  • USA men’s and women’s teams remain cleared for ICC events, including the 2026 T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka and preparations for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics.
  • The ICC or its designated representatives will temporarily oversee the management and high-performance programs of the U.S. national teams to safeguard athletes and continuity.
  • The ICC’s Normalisation Committee, backed by ICC management, will publish and monitor specific, demonstrable reforms to governance and operations that USA Cricket must complete to regain membership.
  • USA Cricket was put on notice in 2024 and received a July 2025 reprieve tied to reform commitments that the ICC says went unmet, with separate legal disputes involving American Cricket Enterprises reported as fueling instability.
