Overview

  • The ICC and IOC published the joint qualification system on Monday, June 29, 2026, formally confirming how six-team men’s and women’s T20 tournaments will be filled for LA28.
  • Each event will feature six national teams with 15-player squads, two groups of three and all 28 matches staged at a purpose-built venue in Pomona.
  • Four women's teams have already qualified through the 2026 Women’s T20 World Cup—Australia, Great Britain (via England), India and South Africa—one representing each of Oceania, Europe, Asia and Africa.
  • Men’s direct places will be allocated mainly by ICC Men’s T20I rankings with the continental cut-off on 31 December 2026 and the USA can claim host slots only if they enter the top 15 during the ranking window from 30 June to 31 December 2026 with specified contingency transfers if they do not.
  • The final berth in each event will be decided at the inaugural eight-team ICC Olympics Qualifier in 2027 and a separate Caribbean Qualifier will resolve which IOC-recognised nation can advance if the composite West Indies occupy a qualifying spot.
