Overview
- ICAI convened its 445th council meeting in Pahalgam from Aug. 12–14 and hoisted the national flag on Aug. 15, marking the first high-level national gathering in the valley since the April 22 terror attack that killed 26 civilians.
- Around 150 ICAI members and their families attended the event at Pine and Peak Hotel, underscoring a gesture of solidarity with the local community still reeling from the attack.
- President Charanjot Singh Nanda described the visit as a conscious effort to rebuild trust, signal a return to normalcy and reaffirm the institute’s commitment to stand firm against terror.
- The meeting had been postponed from May after the attack and proceeded only after the Prime Minister and Home Minister publicly assured that travel to Pahalgam was safe.
- Chief Minister Omar Abdullah welcomed the delegation and said their presence sends a powerful message of confidence that will help revive tourism and support local livelihoods.
