IC3 Report Finds Nationwide Student Mental-Health Crisis and Gaps in School Support

New data released at the Mumbai conference bolsters momentum to expand school counselling frameworks.

Overview

  • An IC3 survey of 8,542 students across classes 8–12 reports that one in five rarely feels calm, motivated or excited.
  • Forty percent say they do not know where to seek help in school, and nearly half have never received structured career counseling.
  • Three in four Class 12 students fail to get the recommended 7–8 hours of sleep on school nights, with academic pressure and overthinking cited as drivers.
  • Girls report nearly twice the rate of persistent sadness compared with boys, and non-binary students report the lowest overall well-being.
  • The Mumbai IC3 Conference gathered over 1,500 educators from 95 countries, unveiled the IC3 On Demand model and more regional meetings, and reflected a recent Supreme Court call for stronger school-based counselling.
