Overview
- IBM disclosed the dual-architecture processor design at the Hot Chips conference on Monday, saying each core can natively execute IBM Z and Arm instructions concurrently.
- The chip is described as being built on a 2 nanometer node with 11 high-performance cores running above 5.7 GHz, integrated AI inference accelerators, an on-chip data processing unit for I/O acceleration, and a large cache architecture.
- IBM says the processor is being developed to let organizations run Arm-native Linux environments alongside z/OS and Linux on IBM Z and LinuxONE to broaden application and developer choice.
