IBGE: App-Based Transport Reaches 26% of Brazilian Cities After 64% Rise Since 2020

Most towns report no app service, reflecting concentration in larger municipalities.

  • Coverage varies by state, led by Rio de Janeiro at 62% of municipalities served, followed by São Paulo at 48% and Santa Catarina at 45%, with Piauí and Paraíba among the lowest.
  • Traditional modes remain far more widespread, including taxis in 4,427 cities, vans in 3,338, mototáxis in 2,925 and intramunicipal buses in 1,735, while metros operate in 21 and rail in 106; bus accessibility for people with disabilities is fully adapted in 481 cities, partially in 851 and absent in 403.
