IBA May Appeal to Swiss Court Over Olympic Exclusion

The International Boxing Association is contesting the International Olympic Committee's decision to strip it of recognition, with a verdict not expected until next year.

  • The International Boxing Association (IBA) could appeal to the Swiss supreme court if the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) upholds the International Olympic Committee's (IOC) decision to exclude the IBA from the Olympics.
  • The IOC stripped the IBA of recognition due to its failure to complete reforms on governance, finance and ethical issues.
  • Several countries have left the IBA to join a new organisation, World Boxing, which is due to hold its inaugural congress in Germany next week.
  • Boxing will be part of the Paris 2024 Olympics, but the qualification bouts and the competition itself are being run by the IOC and not the IBA.
  • A CAS verdict on the IBA's appeal against the IOC's decision is not expected before early next year.
