IAS Officer Sanjay Sethi Temporarily Appointed as MSRTC Chairman

Maharashtra government breaks tradition by appointing an IAS officer to lead the state-run transport corporation, sparking political tensions.

Sanjay Sethi, an additional chief secretary and transport secretary, becomes the first IAS officer to chair the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC).
The appointment is described as a temporary arrangement until a public representative is selected for the role.
The decision deviates from the long-standing convention of appointing political representatives to the MSRTC chairmanship.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis used discretionary powers to appoint Sethi, reportedly without consulting Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde or the Shiv Sena.
The MSRTC, which operates 14,000 buses and serves 55 lakh passengers daily, faces financial struggles, including mounting losses and declining ridership.
