Ian Ziering Sued Over Alleged Battery and Malicious Prosecution Tied to 2023 Road-Rage Clash

The filing claims Ziering's conduct, amplified by publicity, led to an arrest later declined by prosecutors.

Overview

  • Jacob Hernandez filed a civil complaint in Los Angeles County accusing Ziering of battery, assault, intentional infliction of emotional distress, malicious prosecution, negligence and negligent infliction of emotional distress stemming from a Dec. 31, 2023 encounter.
  • According to the complaint, Ziering exited his stopped Mercedes, yelled at Hernandez and shoved him without provocation, causing both riders to fall, suffer injuries and damage their motorbikes, followed by a broader street melee.
  • An LAPD release at the time described a fight involving four to five minibike riders, said Ziering’s vehicle was vandalized, and reported no serious injuries to the actor or his 10-year-old child who was in the car.
  • The suit alleges Ziering gave misleading accounts to media and police that precipitated Hernandez’s May 21, 2024 arrest; at a subsequent arraignment, the District Attorney’s office said no criminal case would proceed.
  • Hernandez seeks compensatory and punitive damages and a jury trial, while Ziering previously stated on Instagram that he left his car to assess damage and acted to protect himself.
