Ian Huntley Sends Cryptic Prison Letter Refusing Daughter’s Request to Meet

The Soham killer’s adult daughter had sought answers about the 2002 murders.

Overview

  • Samantha Bryan asked to visit Huntley at Frankland Prison to seek information about the killings of Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman.
  • Instead of agreeing to a meeting, Huntley sent a letter declining contact that read, "Given the probable length of my future and your current motives I doubt there will be enough time for a significant shift in circumstances in order for us to ever meet."
  • Bryan condemned the response in remarks published by The Sun, which were reported by the Mirror and the Daily Star.
  • Huntley is serving two life sentences with a minimum term of 40 years for the 2002 murders after luring the 10-year-olds into his home and disposing of their bodies near an RAF base.
  • The case prompted the 2004 Bichard inquiry, which found vetting failures that enabled Huntley’s school role, and Maxine Carr was jailed for providing him with a false alibi.
