Overview
- The Sarang Helicopter Display Team will fly a newly certified five‑helicopter routine over the National Defence Academy during the convocation on Friday, May 29, and again for the Passing Out Parade on May 30.
- The five‑ship profile was adopted after two to three months of rehearsals, recorded debriefs and formal evaluations to adapt signature manoeuvres for close formation flying and to meet safety standards.
- Two women co‑pilots, Squadron Leader Nidarshana and Squadron Leader Ankita, are part of the contingent, coinciding with the NDA’s third graduating batch of women cadets.
- The team flies the indigenously developed Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH) Dhruv built by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited, which organizers say highlights India’s domestic aerospace capability.
- Sarang has a long performance record of more than 1,200 displays at over 390 venues, and this will be the first time the five‑helicopter profile is performed at the NDA even though it has been shown elsewhere in India.
