IAF Sustains Flood Rescues in Jammu and Punjab With Mi-17s, Chinook and C-130

Overview

  • Five Mi-17 helicopters and one Chinook were deployed from Northern Sector bases, with more helicopters and transport aircraft kept ready for tasking.
  • Winch operations rescued 12 Army troops and 11 BSF personnel in Akhnoor and another 38 Army personnel and 10 BSF members in Dera Baba Nanak under hazardous conditions.
  • IAF helicopters evacuated 46 stranded civilians in the Pathankot area, and local authorities said irrigation department staff at Madhopur Headworks were also airlifted.
  • A C-130 delivered relief supplies and an NDRF team to Jammu, and more than 750 kilograms of essential aid were airdropped to cut-off communities.
  • Authorities say thousands of residents have been moved from low-lying areas as rains persist, with further rescue missions continuing across the region.
