IAF Chief Lands C-130J to Inaugurate Nyoma Airbase Near LAC

The high-altitude base strengthens India’s rapid deployment capability near the China frontier.

Overview

  • Air Chief Marshal A P Singh declared the Mudh-Nyoma facility operational by landing a C-130J special operations aircraft.
  • The base can now host fighter jets, transport aircraft and helicopters with sustainment for ongoing operations.
  • Nyoma sits at about 13,700 feet with a roughly 2.7–3 km runway located approximately 23–30 km from the Line of Actual Control.
  • The Border Roads Organisation executed the ₹214–218 crore upgrade, with a women-officer-led team building hangars, an ATC building and hard standing.
  • The defence ministry is advancing plans to revive the Chushul ALG for UAVs and helicopters, with its existing strip suitable for C-295 and C-130J operations.
