Iacchetti–Mizrahi TV Clash Over Gaza Escalates to Threats and a 'Fascist' Accusation

The on-air confrontation has become a touchstone for Italy's polarized debate over Gaza, raising questions about broadcast civility.

Overview

  • During a Sept. 16/17 episode of È sempre Cartabianca on Rete 4, Enzo Iacchetti and Eyal Mizrahi argued over Israel’s conduct in Gaza, leading Iacchetti to threaten to come down and punch Mizrahi on air.
  • Host Bianca Berlinguer cut to a commercial break after insults and a dispute over casualty figures and definitions, including Mizrahi’s challenge to define “bambino” in the context of Gaza deaths.
  • Iacchetti condemned Israeli military actions, cited recent UN commission findings alleging genocide, and later said on social media he would repeat every word he used during the broadcast.
  • Mizrahi, president of the Federazione Amici di Israele, defended Israel and blamed Hamas for endangering civilians, later telling Adnkronos the threat reflected “fascist” behavior and saying he does not view himself as anyone’s enemy.
  • The exchange drew immediate and polarized reactions from Italian media figures, with praise and condemnation traded online, and as of Sept. 18 there is no report of legal action.
