I-85 in South Carolina Reopened After Bomb Threat Investigation

A truck driver claimed to have an explosive device during a traffic stop, prompting a multi-agency response and hours-long highway closure.

Ahmad Jamal Khamees Alhendi, 28, of Illinois, was arrested after allegedly claiming there was a bomb in his truck during a traffic stop on January 2.
The incident led to the closure of all six lanes of Interstate 85 near Greenville County for nearly four hours as authorities investigated.
Multiple law enforcement agencies, including the FBI, State Law Enforcement Division, and Greenville County Sheriff’s Office, responded to the scene.
A bomb squad searched the truck and found no explosive devices, declaring the area safe by approximately 7:40 p.m.
The truck driver faces charges, including conveying false information about a bomb and operating an unregistered vehicle.
