Overview
- Lane restrictions begin at 7 p.m. Saturday on both directions of I-83 and on westbound Route 322, with all I-83 lanes closing near the bridge at 11 p.m. and reopening targeted by 8 a.m. Sunday.
- PennDOT detours route northbound drivers via Exit 42 to Second Street and Paxton Street, and southbound via Exit 45 to Paxton Street and 17th Street.
- PennDOT expects heavy congestion during the roughly nine-hour closure as crews blast the span and clear debris overnight Nov. 15–16.
- Separately, the right lane and shoulder of southbound I-83 on the John Harris Memorial (South) Bridge are closed for several weeks for emergency steel repairs between the Second Street on-ramp and the Lemoyne off-ramp.
- The demolition is subcontracted to Newville Construction Services, debris will go to DEP-approved sites including Capital City Dump by day and New Enterprise’s Camp Hill quarry at night, and the 19th Street corridor remains closed through 2026 with ramps reopening in spring 2027.
