I-80 Solano Express Lanes Begin Tolling as 18-Mile Corridor Goes Live

Drivers need a FasTrak tag with the correct carpool setting under dynamic, zone-based pricing during 5 a.m.–8 p.m. hours.

Overview

  • The lanes activated at 5 a.m. Tuesday on the stretch from Red Top Road in Fairfield to I-505 in Vacaville, divided into four toll zones in each direction.
  • All users must have FasTrak, with 3+ carpools, vanpools, buses and motorcycles traveling free on a FasTrak Flex set to 3+, two-person carpools paying half on 2, and solo drivers paying full on 1 or a standard tag.
  • Tolls rise and fall with congestion and are charged per zone, with current one-zone prices ranging from $0.50 to $15.
  • Overhead signs display destination-based rates, and motorists pay the price shown when they enter even if it changes during the trip.
  • Developed by MTC, Caltrans and the Solano Transportation Authority and operated by MTC’s BAIFA affiliate, the lanes aim to improve reliability for commuters, transit and emergency responders; unpaid use results in a mailed bill plus a $10 penalty.
