I-70 Rollover Seriously Injures Three Pedestrians During Weekend of Wyandotte County Crashes

KHP says a rolling Ford Fusion hit people standing by a disabled car near mile marker 222.

Overview

  • Three people on the shoulder of westbound I-70 near S. 142nd Street were struck around 5 p.m. Sunday after a 2013 Ford Fusion lost control and rolled.
  • The pedestrians, ages 22 to 26 from Topeka and Osage City, were taken to Kansas City-area hospitals with suspected serious injuries.
  • Occupants of the Ford Fusion sustained only minor injuries, and KHP reported they were wearing seatbelts.
  • KHP said the disabled vehicle was a Chevrolet Impala in the right ditch from a prior crash when the Fusion rolled toward the group.
  • In a separate crash Saturday on I-670 eastbound near Genessee Street, a rear-end chain collision injured three people, with the Kia driver seriously hurt, and both incidents remain under KHP review with no reported charges.
