I-30 Shut Through Downtown Dallas for Weekend Bridge Demolition

Signed detours will send east–west traffic to Woodall Rodgers Freeway as the multi‑year Canyon rebuild deepens access problems for south‑downtown businesses.

Overview

  • TxDOT will close all eastbound and westbound lanes of I-30 between I-35E and I-45/US 75 from 10 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 24, until 5 a.m. Monday, Oct. 26, to demolish several bridges in the Canyon work zone.
  • A signed detour will route east‑west traffic onto State Highway 366/Woodall Rodgers Freeway and drivers are warned to expect significant delays and to avoid nonessential travel through downtown.
  • Several nearby streets already have long‑term closures or restrictions, including Botham Jean/Lamar Boulevard, Griffin Street, Cesar Chavez Boulevard, Akard Street, Good Latimer Expressway, Cadiz Street and Canton Street, with limits stretching into 2027–2028.
  • Local business owners on the south side of downtown say weekend closures cut customer access and could reduce weekend income during an already disruptive construction period.
  • The weekend shutdown is a planned phase of the $888 million I-30 Canyon corridor project that began earlier this year and is scheduled for completion in 2031, weather permitting.
