I-30 Shut Through Downtown Dallas for Full Weekend Closure

TxDOT says crews will demolish bridges as part of the $888 million I-30 Canyon rebuild to speed multi-year work on the corridor.

Overview

  • TxDOT will close all eastbound and westbound lanes of I-30 between I-35E and I-45 from 10 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 24, until 5 a.m. Monday, Oct. 26, and has posted a signed detour to State Highway 366/Woodall Rodgers Freeway.
  • Officials are warning drivers to expect significant delays and urging people to avoid unnecessary travel through downtown Dallas during the full closure.
  • Crews will demolish several bridges in the Canyon area to enable reconstruction work, and TxDOT points to a similar January weekend shutdown that reopened on schedule as precedent for the operation.
  • Longer-term lane and street restrictions tied to the I-30 Canyon project remain in place, with Botham Jean/Lamar closed through late 2027 and Cesar Chavez closed through late 2028 among other phased closures.
  • Texas drivers should also expect regional impacts from parallel weekend closures in San Antonio for the Loop 1604 North Expansion and the I-35 NEX program as those multibillion-dollar projects progress toward 2028–2030 completion targets.
