I-285 Westside Shuts Down All Weekend for Pavement Work

The official detour funnels vehicles to Langford Parkway, I-75 and I-20, creating region-wide delays.

Overview

  • GDOT’s full shutdown, which runs Friday 7 p.m. to Monday 5 a.m., closes all lanes between Cascade Road (Exit 7) and MLK Jr. Drive (Exit 9) on I-285’s west side.
  • Northbound drivers exit at Langford Parkway (Exit 5), go east to I-75, head north to I-20, then reenter I-285 at Exit 9, with the reverse route for southbound.
  • Crews are milling and grinding concrete and prepping for slab repairs to give heavy equipment room to work and to keep workers and drivers safe.
  • Officials warn of extreme delays across metro Atlanta and on neighborhood streets, urging people to avoid the area, leave extra time, and check 511GA for live updates.
  • The closure supports a wider westside rebuild that GDOT says spans about 10 miles from South Fulton Parkway in College Park to Collier Road, a key stretch of Atlanta’s loop highway.
