Overview

  • Hyundai released demonstration footage on August 4 showing its Universe fuel cell bus successfully navigating a 2,080-meter route in NEOM’s mountainous Trojena region.
  • The bus test employed proprietary map technology to monitor environmental conditions and optimize fuel cell efficiency in low-oxygen, steep-gradient terrain.
  • This operation represented the first real-world heavy-duty hydrogen vehicle trial above 2,000 meters, proving zero-emission transport can handle extreme topography.
  • Enowa provided the region’s first green hydrogen refueling station for heavy vehicles, ensuring rapid high-pressure fueling during the demonstration.
  • Following the successful trial, Hyundai and NEOM plan to deploy hydrogen taxis, service fleets and tourist shuttles supported by an expanding green hydrogen network across the smart city.
