Hyundai Unveils Second-Generation Nexo Fuel-Cell SUV With Longer Range and Lower Price

Sparse refuelling keeps the new model a technology showpiece.

Overview

  • The Nexo II is set for Germany in early 2026 with an entry price around €68,000, down from roughly €77,000 for the previous model.
  • Hyundai quotes a WLTP range of 826 km, a 150 kW (204 PS) motor, 0–100 km/h in about 7.8–7.9 seconds, a 179 km/h top speed, and roughly five-minute refuelling from 6.69 kg hydrogen tanks.
  • Efficiency and safety updates include a refined fuel-cell stack, improved tank valves, new leak detectors, and extended fire protection, alongside a modern cabin with a curved display and digital mirrors.
  • Public hydrogen infrastructure remains thin, with about 80–100 stations in Germany and recent closures reported, Austria’s four sites shut down, and pump prices around €15–19/kg translating to near €100 per fill.
  • Hyundai describes the model as a showcase to sustain fuel-cell expertise, with limited competition beyond Toyota’s Mirai and little evidence of near-term conditions for mass-market adoption.
