Hyundai Recalls Over 90,000 Genesis Vehicles for Fire Hazard

Owners advised to park vehicles outside until repairs are completed, following a recall due to a risk of engine fires.

  • Hyundai is recalling more than 90,000 Genesis vehicles across several models due to a fire risk, advising owners to park outside until repairs are made.
  • The recall affects certain 2015-2016 Genesis, 2017-2019 Genesis G80, Genesis G90, and 2019 Genesis G70 vehicles.
  • The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration identified that water may enter the starter solenoid, causing an electrical short and potentially leading to an engine compartment fire.
  • Hyundai has confirmed a dozen thermal incidents in the U.S. from Sept. 29, 2017, to July 9, 2023, involving smoke, melting of components, or fires, but no crashes or injuries have been reported.
  • Dealers will install a remedy relay kit in the engine junction box free of charge, with notification letters expected to be mailed to owners by April 13.
