Overview
- Hyundai Motor Group announced on Tuesday that it will invest US$15.5 billion in India from 2026 through 2032 to expand manufacturing, research and development, and new mobility businesses.
- The group will set up a dedicated investment entity in India and earmark about US$700 million for its Indian R&D centre, including a vehicle test track and engineering capacity for next‑generation vehicle technologies.
- Hyundai Motor India formally inaugurated the Talegaon (Pune) plant on Wednesday and said it will invest roughly Rs 11,000 crore in phases at the site with an additional Rs 4,000 crore commitment for Maharashtra to raise Pune capacity from 170,000 to about 320,000 units by 2030.
- The investment backs a product and localisation roadmap that includes roughly 26 Hyundai models or updates by 2030, expanded hybrid and EV lineups at Kia, targets for much higher local parts content, and plans to scale exports from India to other emerging markets.
- Company officials say the programme will create jobs, accelerate supplier localisation and build services such as EV charging, specialised financing and end‑of‑life vehicle recycling, positioning India as a strategic manufacturing and export hub and reducing the group’s supply‑chain concentration risk.
