Hyundai Mobis Launches Auto Semicon Korea Alliance to Build Korean Auto‑Chip Supply Chain

Hyundai Mobis positions itself as the bridge linking automakers to chipmakers to localize critical components.

Overview

  • At the inaugural forum in Pangyo, the company convened 23 participants, including Samsung Electronics, LX Semicon, SK Key Foundry, DB HiTek and the Korea Electrotechnology Research Institute.
  • Hyundai Mobis set goals to secure independent design and production capabilities, establish a stable domestic supply base and shorten R&D timelines by up to two years.
  • South Korea currently imports about 95 percent of automotive semiconductor components used in infotainment, connectivity, driver assistance and other systems.
  • The company said it now produces 16 chip types through external foundries with annual output of roughly 20 million units, positioning itself as a tier‑1 bridge for automakers and chip suppliers.
  • ASK will become an annual forum with broader participation next year, as Hyundai Mobis cites a market projected to reach about 200 trillion won (US$138 billion) by 2030 and reports joint development nearing completion with GlobalFoundries and Dongwoon Anatech for mass production as early as next year.
