Hydrometcentre Warns of Widespread Russian Cold Snap With Night Frosts

The forecast cites a 15–20°C temperature drop driven by a surge of northern air.

  • Light frosts have already been observed in the Moscow region, with lows down to −0.2°C in Volokolamsk and Klin and −0.1°C near Novo‑Ierusalimsky.
  • Nighttime freezes of −2 to −3°C are expected in central European Russia, including Moscow and neighboring oblasts such as Belgorod, Tambov, Voronezh and Kursk.
  • Colder minima are forecast in the Volga region to −5°C and in the Urals and southern Siberia to −6°C, while the southern Far East remains warm above +20°C.
  • Crimea faces gusts up to 25 m/s with precipitation and cooling sea water near +20–+21°C, though other Black Sea resorts retain warmer waters of about +22–+23°C.
  • In Moscow, rain is set to persist until late evening on September 27 with 3–6 mm expected, followed by cooler nights of +4 to +6°C in the city and possible slight frosts in the region early next week.
