Hydrometcenter Warns of Arctic Cold Wave With Temperatures Down to −42°C
Forecasters link the imminent plunge to an intrusion of frigid air from the Arctic Ocean.

- The official forecast covers the Northwestern, Ural and Siberian federal districts this weekend and into next week.
- Northern European Russia is projected to run 5–10°C below normal over the weekend and Monday, with −16 to −21°C in Arkhangelsk, −28°C in the Nenets Autonomous Okrug and −26 to −29°C in eastern Komi.
- In the northern Urals, Yamalo-Nenets and Khanty-Mansiysk are forecast to be 12–19°C below the norm with lows of −35 to −42°C. Sverdlovsk is expected to see around −30°C on December 7–9, while Chelyabinsk, Kurgan and Tyumen are set for −25 to −33°C.
- Next week Tomsk is projected to drop to −33 to −42°C at night and −26 to −30°C by day, with Omsk, Novosibirsk, Kemerovo, Irkutsk, Altai Krai and Khakassia facing −25 to −34°C.
