Hydrogen Peroxide Tanker Overturns on Mumbai-Ahmedabad Highway, Prompting Traffic Halt

Investigators have launched a probe into chemical transport safety after a heavy-duty crane cleared the overturned tanker within an hour.

Overview

  • The tanker flipped on a flyover near Mendhavan village around 3 pm on June 14, but the driver escaped unhurt and no hydrogen peroxide leaked.
  • Traffic on both sides of the highway was halted immediately and later resumed under one-way regulation once the site was secured.
  • Two fire engines from Boisar MIDC and Adani Power responded to the incident alongside NHAI’s heavy-duty crane used to right the tanker.
  • Palghar Tehsildar Ramesh Shendge visited the scene as emergency teams managed the recovery operation.
  • Authorities are now investigating the accident’s cause and assessing safety protocols for transporting hazardous chemicals through the accident-prone Mendhwan Ghat stretch.
