Overview
- On July 11, Commissioner A. V. Ranganath led teams to remove structures narrowing the Bulkapur drain from eight to five metres, restoring its original width between Thummalabasti and Anandnagar
- HYDRAA cleared obstructions on the IDL Lake surplus drain that had shrunk from seven to two metres, reducing flood risks in Habib Nagar, Srihari Nagar and Shivashakti Nagar
- Two local function halls that had encroached on a 50–70-metre stretch of the IDL nala were demolished while property owners who agreed to voluntary removals were spared
- Friday’s operations mark the first phase of a campaign to clear encroachments along the two-kilometre course where the IDL nala merges with the Kukatpally drain
- The initiative follows High Court directives and HMDA notifications and relies on satellite imagery and field inspections to reopen clogged waterways and mitigate monsoon flood threats
