HYDRAA Clears 100 Acres of Alleged Encroachments in Hyderabad After Dawn Operation

Officials say complaints about sales of tiny houses on government land prompted the operation.

Overview

  • Teams moved in at 5 a.m. in Gajularamaram, Qutbullapur, targeting structures in Survey No. 397 as police removed residents who tried to block bulldozers.
  • Telangana Today reported about 750 shelters were torn down at a site residents described as a reclaimed dump yard where families had lived for decades ahead of Bathukamma.
  • HYDRAA stated that more than 275 acres handed to the State Finance Corporation in 2014 were reclaimed in the area, estimating the land’s value at Rs 12,000–15,000 crore.
  • An earlier report put the encroached 100 acres at roughly Rs 4,500 crore, with claims that 60–70 sq yd units were being sold for about Rs 10 lakh each.
  • HYDRAA said field officers were instructed not to demolish dwellings of the poor, even as residents alleged widespread loss of homes and reports cited past collusion by some officials enabling utilities on the plots.
