Overview

  • HYDRAA and SCB began a joint demolition drive at dawn on June 6, deploying bulldozers after a joint inspection by HYDRAA Commissioner A V Ranganath and SCB CEO D Madhukar Naik.
  • Encroachments had reduced Patny Nala’s original 70-foot width to just 15–18 feet, with more than 70 percent of the channel occupied by unauthorized shops, washrooms and security rooms.
  • Neighbouring communities such as Paigah Colony, Patny Housing Colony and Viman Nagar have endured annual monsoon flooding due to the constricted waterway.
  • HYDRAA released drone visuals showing large piles of debris and dismantled structures obstructing the nala’s flow.
  • The Secunderabad Cantonment Board plans to construct retaining walls along the restored channel to curb future encroachments and flooding.
