Hyderabad Suspends Cellar Permits and Targets 428 Unsafe Buildings Ahead of Monsoon

  • GHMC’s May survey found 428 dilapidated structures and 62 ongoing cellar excavations across Hyderabad.
  • Of the identified buildings, 131 have undergone repairs or evacuation and 297 are subject to ongoing notices and structural assessments.
  • From May 30 until the end of the monsoon season, the civic body will bar approval of any new cellar excavation permits.
  • Owners of existing excavations must reinforce soil, build retaining walls, install barricades and maintain drainage to prevent water accumulation.
