Hyderabad Sets Sankranti Kite, Hot-Air Balloon and Drone Festivals for Jan. 13–15

State leaders moved to showcase rejuvenated lakes by ordering dedicated coordination across agencies.

Overview

  • The International Kite Festival at Secunderabad’s Parade Grounds will run January 13–15 with participation from national and overseas kite flyers.
  • Hot air balloon events are planned on the city outskirts during the same period, alongside a drone festival expected to draw pilots from across India.
  • Chief Secretary K. Ramakrishna Rao directed GHMC, HMDA and HYDRAA to designate one officer each to supervise and coordinate work at identified locations.
  • Ministers will begin inspecting rejuvenated lakes in early January as the government aims to host portions of the celebrations at restored water bodies.
  • HYDRAA commissioner A. V. Ranganath detailed improvements to lake utility, storage and sustainability, and departments were asked to create a distinctive festival name, branding and logo.
