Hyderabad Raids Find Beef Sold as Mutton; Two Men Arrested

Lab tests are under way to confirm the alleged adulteration as authorities widen probes into spoiled meat, illegal preservation and diverted chicken waste

Overview

  • H-FAST and police arrested two men on July 1 after raiding Osman Meat Shop in Mallepally and seizing about 50 kilograms of meat that officials allege was beef being sold as goat meat.
  • A criminal case was registered against shop owner Mohammed Osman Qureshi and worker Mohammed Jahangir Pasha, and investigators have begun tracing where the seized supplies were distributed.
  • Parallel operations uncovered rotten chicken at Eagle Fisheries in Secunderabad and a Tara Fisheries unit where officials seized prawns, fish and preservation chemicals and arrested four people.
  • H-FAST and GHMC teams intercepted roughly 90 tonnes of chicken waste being moved for use as fish feed, seized seven trucks, and removed about 12 tonnes of spoiled offal from a separate facility.
  • Samples from the raids have been sent to laboratories for confirmation and the ongoing multi-agency enforcement effort aims to curb food-safety risks and expose wider supply-chain malpractice.
