- Hyderabad Police Commissioner C.V. Anand inaugurated Zonal Cyber Cells across all seven city zones on May 29, 2025.
- The initiative deploys 61 officers, including inspectors, sub-inspectors, head constables, police constables and home guards, to staff the new units.
- Reporting to their zonal deputy commissioners, the cells will file complaints on the National Cybercrime Reporting Portal, block fraudulent transactions and facilitate victim refunds.
- The units will leverage expertise from the Cyber Crimes Police Station, which expanded from 40 to 147 staff members in 2023 to provide technical support.
- Cybercrime cases in Hyderabad climbed from 351 incidents in 2015 to 3,111 in 2024, including a rise from 1,393 to 2,550 between 2019 and 2020.
