Hyderabad Police Probe NFM Capital Markets Trading Scam That Cost Resident ₹6.32 Lakh

Police have opened a cybercrime case following a 1930 helpline complaint.

Overview

  • The 57-year-old Himayathnagar victim was approached on Facebook and WhatsApp by a woman calling herself Amrutha Reddy and was steered into an initial USD 500 investment in so-called US gold stocks.
  • The platform displayed a wallet balance of USD 38,694.94 with apparent profits, yet every withdrawal attempt was blocked with demands for taxes, conversion and withdrawal fees, along with threats.
  • Believing the profits were genuine, the victim transferred ₹6.32 lakh through Google Pay and SBI Yono before the scammers sought an additional ₹8 lakh for supposed compliance charges.
  • The complaint was filed via the 1930 cybercrime helpline, and the Hyderabad Cyber Crime Wing registered a case and began an investigation, with no arrests or recoveries reported.
  • Police urged users to verify trading platforms with SEBI, avoid paying fees to unknown accounts, and report suspicious outreach to 1930 or cybercrime.gov.in.
