Hyderabad Police Detail iBomma Piracy Haul, Seek National Probe After Founder’s Arrest

Police outline a vast operation tied to overseas servers, betting promotions and a cache of 21,000 films, with plans to involve central agencies.

Overview

  • Investigators said they recovered nearly 21,000 movies from devices linked to Immadhi Ravi, identified 65 mirror sites and 101 domains, and traced about Rs 20 crore in alleged piracy proceeds while seizing Rs 3 crore.
  • Ravi was arrested in Kukatpally after returning to Hyderabad, produced before a magistrate, and remanded to 14 days in judicial custody as police plan to seek further custody for questioning.
  • Authorities blocked the iBomma and Bappam platforms after obtaining login credentials, and seized laptops, computers, HD prints and hundreds of hard disks during the raid.
  • Police described techniques that included exploiting DRM and delivery-network weaknesses, using encrypted Telegram channels, overseas VPS hosting, server hacks and theatre camcords, with site traffic later diverted to promote betting apps.
  • Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar said the case will be escalated to the CBI and Enforcement Directorate given international links and large fund flows, noting prior arrests of five alleged operatives in September.
