- Cyber fraudsters created Facebook profiles in Commissioner V. C. Sajjanar’s name and messaged his contacts claiming he needed money.
- At least one contact was deceived and transferred ₹20,000 to the scammers, the Commissioner said in a public alert.
- He identified his official Facebook page as his sole legitimate presence and urged people to ignore other profiles.
- The Commissioner advised citizens to verify requests by calling the person directly and to block and report suspicious messages, links or video calls.
- Victims were directed to report incidents via the 1930 helpline or the National Cyber Crime Portal at cybercrime.gov.in.
