Hyderabad Police Bust Interstate Illegal Egg Donation Racket
Rescue of 43 women with eight arrests triggered a probe into medical safety, suspected forged documents, possible trafficking under the ART Act
Overview
- Police carried out coordinated raids at four Hyderabad sites on Saturday, October 31, 2026, and arrested eight people while rescuing 43 women from West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra and other states.
- Officers seized mobile phones, documents and medical items including five vials of Humog HP 150 IU, syringes and fertility drugs after women said they were given hormonal injections ahead of oocyte retrieval.
- Investigators say organisers recruited donors through agents, paid about ₹20,000–30,000 per donation cycle, lodged women in rented premises, and referred them to fertility service providers for stimulation and retrieval.
- Cases were registered under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Sections 29 and 33 of the Assisted Reproductive Technology (Regulation) Act, 2021, and police are verifying identities, medical records, suspected forged Aadhaar and affidavit documents, and financial links.
- The probe will test whether fertility centres or ART banks complied with required supervision, consent and biomedical-waste rules, and it could prompt tighter enforcement of ART regulations and closer scrutiny of cross‑state donor recruitment practices.
