Hyderabad Police Book BRS MLA Over Alleged Durgam Cheruvu Encroachment

The case follows a HYDRAA complaint citing satellite evidence of years of dumping to reclaim lake land.

Overview

  • Cyberabad’s Madhapur police registered an FIR naming Kotha Prabhakar Reddy and Venkat Reddy under BNS Sections 329(3) r/w 3(5) and Section 3 of the PDPP Act.
  • HYDRAA recently cleared roughly five acres near Inorbit Mall, removed parked vehicles, erected fencing, and began steps to remove dumped soil.
  • The complaint alleges that about five acres have been reclaimed since 2014 by dumping soil and stones and that the area was rented for private bus parking with earnings reportedly up to Rs 50 lakh per month.
  • HYDRAA and NRSC data show the lake’s spread has declined from nearly 160 acres to about 116 acres, with illegal filling reported to depths of 10–15 metres that obstruct a proposed walking track.
  • HYDRA Commissioner A. V. Ranganath ordered immediate action on the complaint, and police say their investigation is ongoing.
