Hyderabad Police Arrest Three for Using One Registration Number on Multiple Scooters

Authorities say duplicate number plates were used to hide a financed Activa and avoid traffic fines and a bank repossession.

Overview

  • The Charminar Task Force and Warasiguda police detained Nakoti Mallikarjun, Bheem Ajay Reddy and Koppula Dhanraj after seizing three Honda Activa scooters that all showed the registration TS09 FE 4997.
  • Officers verified vehicle engine and chassis numbers against transport records and found mismatched details that exposed one scooter as an unregistered, financed vehicle.
  • Police say the scooter originally belonged to a man named Sai Ram and was handed to Mallikarjun over a debt, and that a duplicate plate was affixed to avoid an outstanding IndusInd Bank recovery of about ₹36,000.
  • A case has been registered at Warasiguda Police Station under Sections 318(4) and 316(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the investigation is continuing to establish the full scope of the scheme.
  • Investigators warn the method — circulating a single registration across vehicles — can be used to evade enforcement and loan repossession and say transport database checks of engine and chassis numbers are key to detecting such fraud.
