Hyderabad Police Arrest 25 in Alleged Surrogacy and Child-Trafficking Racket

Overview

  • A total of 25 individuals, including fertility clinic owner Dr. A. Namratha, doctors, technicians, agents and some birth parents, were arrested in connection with the illegal surrogacy network.
  • Since the initial FIR on July 27 at Gopalapuram police station, authorities have registered eight additional criminal cases as more victims reported fake surrogacy schemes.
  • Police allege the racket operated through Universal Srushti branches across at least eight cities, charging clients up to ₹40 lakh while paying vulnerable mothers as little as ₹3.5 lakh per child.
  • All accused have been produced in court and remanded to judicial custody pending deeper inquiry by the Central Crime Station Special Investigation Team.
  • Investigators are tracing financial transactions and scrutinizing medical, laboratory and DNA records in a multi-state probe that could result in further arrests.
