Hyderabad Pilgrim Killed in Riyadh Airport Attack

India's diplomatic mission in Riyadh is coordinating assistance for the bereaved family.

Overview

  • A strike on Riyadh’s King Khalid International Airport killed 12 people and wounded more than 300, damaged terminal structures and forced suspension of some flights.
  • One of the dead has been identified as Mohammad Yousuf Ali, a 46-year-old resident of Mehdipatnam in Hyderabad who was travelling with a 13-member Umrah group.
  • Three of Yousuf Ali’s relatives were injured: son Amaan underwent knee surgery, son Wasey is hospitalized after losing three toes and the family’s aunt suffered head injuries while his wife Sameera and daughter Maryam were reported safe.
  • The Indian Embassy in Riyadh and the deputy chief of mission have told family contacts they are providing consular help and AIMIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi has asked External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar to arrange further assistance and repatriation support.
  • Some reports attribute the strike to Yemen’s Houthi movement but that claim is described in coverage as an allegation and not yet uniformly confirmed, a development that highlights rising risks to civilian travel and could prompt diplomatic and security responses.
