Hyderabad North Zone Police Order Security Upgrades for Jewellery, Electronics Shops

The move sets enforceable standards under the Telangana Public Safety Act and BNSS, with a warning of strict action for violations.

Overview

  • Deputy Commissioner of Police S. Rashmi Perumal convened a coordination meeting on Wednesday with more than 50 shop representatives alongside zonal ACPs and SHOs.
  • Shops were directed to install CCTV with adequate backup covering entrances, counters, safes, trial rooms, storage areas and periphery points, plus panic buttons and emergency alerts.
  • Customer verification records were mandated for high-value purchases, buy-back and gold exchange activities, and bulk electronics sales, with compulsory background checks for all staff and contractors.
  • Police warned jewellery retailers not to buy ornaments from unverified sources and cautioned that handling stolen property, even unknowingly, would invite strict legal action.
  • Guidance included strict cash-handling protocols, periodic account checks, staff training on QR-code, UPI and fake screenshot frauds, and structural audits with reinforced locks, alarms and double-locking.
