Overview

• At around 3 am on May 29, police say Abdul Altaf, 25, attacked two security guards at Casino Carnival in Panaji during a drunken dispute.
• Using a wooden stick fitted with a metal clamp, he bludgeoned guard Dheeru Sharma, 33, who later died while being transported to Goa Medical College.
• Another guard, 27-year-old Satyam Gaonkar from Shiroda, sustained head injuries and is reported to be in stable condition.
• Goa Police apprehended Altaf at Dabolim airport as he attempted to flee the state, registering a formal FIR upon his arrest.
• Investigators are probing Altaf’s past as a rowdy-sheeter at Hyderabad’s Mailardevpally station to inform their ongoing inquiry.
