Overview
- Hyderabad Police Commissioner’s Task Force and Pahadishareef police arrested 36-year-old Ch. Mahadev, a photocopy-shop operator from Jalpally, and put him in custody.
- Police say Mahadev installed software that allowed him to alter photographs, names, dates of birth and addresses on Aadhaar and PAN cards from his shop and residence.
- Investigators seized about 60 fake or altered Aadhaar cards, two PAN cards, a laptop, a printer, a lamination machine, a mobile phone and Rs 5,000 in cash.
- Officials reported he charged about ₹300 to change an Aadhaar date of birth and between ₹700 and ₹1,000 to alter all details, and he told police he began the work to earn extra money.
- Police suspect the forged IDs were used to get mobile SIMs, access government welfare schemes and secure private factory jobs, and have handed the materials over to Pahadishareef police for further inquiries.
